Abstract

Background and Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the regional pushout bond strength of fiber posts with different types of luting cements.
Methods: thirty extracted single-rooted mandibular premolars were instrumented with
rotary protaper® system and obturated with protaper® gutta-percha and AH-plus® root
canal sealer. Post space was prepared using Unicore® post drill #2 creating 8mm deep post
space and the same size of Unicore® fiber post #2 was placed. The prepared samples were
(30 samples) then subdivided into three groups for three different luting cement, (G1: RelyX Unicem, G2: TotalCem, G3: GC Fuji I). Each root was sectioned horizontally into 3 slices
(2mm in thickness) representing the coronal, middle and apical regions of the post. Pushout bond strength test were measured using a Universal Material Tester at a cross head
speed of 0.5 mm/min.
Results: Regarding the types of luting materials, RelyX Unicem showed significantly higher
bond strength than other tested materials.
Conclusions: The retention of fiber post was affected by the type of luting materials and
root regions.
